Your 4-day Volcanoes National Park safari with AG Safaris begins with your arrival at Kigali International Airport. A friendly AG Safaris representative will greet you and transfer you to your lodge in Volcanoes National Park, which is located in the northwestern part of Rwanda. The journey takes about 2.5 hours, and you’ll enjoy scenic views of the rolling hills and rural countryside that Rwanda is famous for along the way.

Once you arrive at your lodge, you’ll check in and have some time to rest and acclimate to the altitude. In the evening, you’ll meet your guide for a welcome dinner and briefing. Your guide will give you an overview of the next few days’ activities and answer any questions you may have.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

Today is the highlight of your trip – gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on your trek. Gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and you’ll have the opportunity to observe and photograph these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

The trek can take anywhere from 1-4 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family you’re visiting and the difficulty of the terrain. Your experienced guide will lead you through the forest and provide information about the gorillas and their behavior.

Once you find the gorilla family, you’ll spend an hour observing and photographing them. It’s a truly unforgettable experience to be in such close proximity to these incredible animals.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the option to visit the nearby village of Musanze and learn about the local culture and way of life.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking or Dian Fossey Hike.

On day 3, you’ll have the option to choose between golden monkey trekking or a Dian Fossey hike.

Golden monkey trekking is another unique and fascinating experience that’s only available in the Virunga Mountains. These rare monkeys are endemic to the region, and you’ll have the chance to observe them up close in their natural habitat. The trek usually takes 2-3 hours, and you’ll have an hour to observe and photograph the monkeys once you find them.

Alternatively, you can choose to hike to the Dian Fossey tomb and visit the Karisoke Research Center, where the famous primatologist worked with mountain gorillas for many years. This hike is a bit more strenuous than the golden monkey trek, but it’s a rewarding experience to learn about Fossey’s work and legacy.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali and Departure.
